It seems like only yesterday that I was introduced to Abe, by his daughter, Christina. She warned me about how mischievous he was and how he liked to get a rise out of everyone. She told me he never addressed any of her previous boyfriends by name. They only received numbers, much like some James Bond villain's henchmen. At the time I had my hair dyed black (for a professor Snape cosplay for comic-con) and Abe told me I looked like the rock star Glen Danzig! So after that I was just known as Danzig. I will end this story with a quote from the old 1960's British t.v. show The Prisoner which was also used in the intro of the 1982 Iron Maiden song by the same name. "I am not a number, I am a free man!" Abe would appreciate me telling this story. He had an outrageous sense of humor, and a great laugh. I'll never forget his laugh. I can hear it in my head right now.. He'd also appreciate the references to music and movies... We spent a lot of time talking about music, and taking turns playing songs on YouTube. He had a great breadth of knowledge of music and a truly eclectic taste. Anything from folk to rock, metal, blues, classically trained guitarists, comedy and song parodies, and everything in-between. I am glad I got to spend time watching movies with him, whether it was a wild and crazy b- action horror film, or an adaptation of a comic book, our comments were at least as entertaining as the movie, if not more so. I will remember fondly the times we spent with him on holidays, and the meals... the man could cook! Even during the pandemic, he was leaving meals for us by the front door. He always loved a good joke or sending (often inappropriate) memes back and forth. He often complimented me on my sense of humor, that meant a lot to me. Rest easy, my friend. I'll keep everyone laughing for you!

Abie, dear sweet ‘little’ brother, I am missing you already. I will miss driving you from point A to point B, getting lost in the process because you have me laughing so hard. Sharing childhood memories, helping me to get to know my own mother and father better. I will miss your kindness, your smile, not your bluntness, your smart-aleckness, and your honesty. I will miss your “I love you,” at the end of every phone call with you. I will miss your compliments and constructive ‘comments’ on my cooking. I will miss your enjoyment of our family’s traditional meals. Thank you for always being there for mom before she passed. Thank you for being a good older brother. I will miss you. I love you very much ‘little’ brother. Rest In Peace Abie, you are no longer in pain. Your daughter Christina will not be alone, we are here for her. Your ‘big’ sister Ana Acuña
