My condolences to this wonderful, loving family. First to her Husband Carlos who is such a devoted wonderful man, he was an amazing caregiver to his sweet wife. Through the years i have come to know the children in this family, all wonderful , and all dearly loved by Alice. In our many conversations over the years, Alice always expressed her love, and care toward all her children. Alice was a joy to be around, I will always remember her wonderful sense of humor, we have had many laughs together. My love to all of the Melandez family, and my love to sweet Alice…

I can't remember a time I when didn't t know a know a Melendez. From my best friend Becky (5th grade) to Tommy keeping me awake and explaining what the teacher just said to Steve when he was a football star at Catalina. I remember Alice as a very nice mom and amazed she could take care of all those boys. My memory of her is in 5th grade. I told Becky something (can't say here and don't really think I did) and she went home and asked her mom. I think she said something I am cleaning the bathroom and corrected it. I figured if she didn't ban us from being friends then I must have been in! Throughout the years Becky would tell me that her mom would ask about me and especially during hard times in my life. Not sure why but I was surprised each time, but it always made me feel special. Alice you were a wonderful mom, a wonderful wife, wonderful grandma and most of all wonderful a kind and caring woman, Rest in Peace.

July 16th, 2021: This morning I was sitting bedside holding the hand of my 91 year old mom who is struggling with Alzheimer's. Looking down at her, I saw a strong and beautiful woman. A woman at the age of 20 left the only family and county she knew, England. She boarded a small ship headed to America with her new husband and her first born child, Carlos. She never got the chance to return and see her parents again. She ended up in the desert of Douglas AZ.. Surrounded with people who mostly speak Spanish, and not knowing what was been said, she found a little money and located a woman who taught her Spanish. Over the years she became proficient in the language. She moved around every part of this country even flying to the Philippines with seven kids by herself, six being boys. She was the one in the family that almost always had to say no to us because we just didn't have the money. She always ate last and always gave us the last of the food. Our father was always over sea, three tours of duty in Vietnam, alone. She never drove so we walked everywhere grocery stores, the bank, malls and we would carry everything back home. She did the laundry, hung it outside on the clothesline, she ironed all our clothes, cooked 3 meals, food for school, got us to places we needed to be, paid all the bills, and after all that, at the end of the night she would sit on the edge of her bed, I would be next to her because she was helping me with my homework and reading. I had a learning disability so this meant every night. This is why I say our mother, Alice Marian O'Neill Melendez was one strong and beautiful woman, one loving mother. That is why I will always remember her that way. I love you mom!!

I feel honored and privileged to have been your daughter. You always loved me unconditionally and were the best mother and grandmother anyone could wish for. You were my very best friend and I will miss you forever.
