Hans Hoffman

Obituary of Hans Peter Hoffman

Hans Peter Hoffman, known to most as Mr. Hoffman, passed away on May 24th, 2023 at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife Joy; children Jacqui, Mark, David, John, Rebecca, Ashley, Abby and James; and his 10 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother Marianne Rowley and his brother Charles Roberts.

Mr. Hoffman was born in Munich, Germany on December 7th, 1946. He moved to Columbus, Ohio at the age of 6 and stayed in the United States through college. For most of his upbringing his household was military which called for travel and structure while navigating life after WW2. This unique childhood formed his strong mind and interests in world view and politics, martial arts, fitness and nutrition and overall appreciation for structure, decorum and self discipline. He went on to study Physics, Literature and Linguistics at the University of South Carolina and worked as a paramedic as well as competing as a professional body builder while completing his degree. He then returned back to South Carolina to teach at the college level before moving back to Germany where he taught English to all school ages.

Mr. Hoffman opened his first karate and taekwondo school in Germany and then moved back to the United States for the remainder of his life continuing with his passion for teaching karate and taekwondo. He spent much of his time in the karate studio and cared deeply for his students putting a lot of thought into teaching both the lessons of karate and the wisdoms of life. Outside of karate he thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and passed on that love for fishing, camping and hiking to his children.

Mr. Hoffman was an avid reader and enjoyed sitting down and sifting through an intelligent discussion. He had a talent for skiing and enjoyed riding his motorcycle as well as cruising the streets in his early days in his Lamborghini and later in his historic Ford Bronco. His love of espresso, regular trips for gelato and his unanticipated sense of humor will be fondly remembered and his technique and willingness to cook many amazing meals for his wife and family will be sorely missed.

Mr. Hoffman was a wonderfully devoted husband and dedicated father who impacted those in his life near and far. His high expectations and call for his family and students to always think deeply and be positive contributors to this world has undoubtedly left a legacy that will continue to influence those who knew him.

A memorial service with reception to follow will be held in his honor on June 17th at 11 am at Grace Community Church, 9755 N La Cholla Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85742.
